These collagen fillers are made from purified human dermal tissue that is grown under controlled conditions, therefore, no allergy testing is required. Along with topical numbing applied to the treated area 30 minutes prior, these fillers are formulated with anesthetic for patient comfort during the treatment. These biodegradable filler agents are best used for correction of specific facial wrinkles or lines and restoration of the lip border. They can be placed very superficially-right into a line-for improvement of lines that are visible on the skin. Because of their superficial placement, Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast can create small raised or white areas at the treatment site that typically last only a few days but can be longer lasting. Temporary puffiness around the treatment site should be expected, which will resolve itself within a 72-hour period. Bruising an redness may occur at the injection sites that can last up to 7 days. Restored volume replacement lasts only 3-4 months in some areas.
