What is Fraxel Re:Pair™?
Fraxel Re:Pair™ is the newest generation of resurfacing techniques to correct aged and damaged skin without prolonged downtime. Fraxel Re:Pair™ is an ablative CO2 laser system that provides treatment both on the surface and deep in the dermis with a single treatment.
Fraxel Re:Pair™ uses focused light energy to precisely treat thousands of microscopic areas of your skin. The treatment penetrates deep into the skin to remove old, damaged skin cells, stimulates your body's own natural healing process, and replaces the cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.
Because the technology is so precise and safe, Fraxel Re:Pair™ works not only on the face, but also on delicate skin areas such as the neck, chest and hands.
Is Fraxel Re:Pair™ safe?
With Fraxel Re:Pair™ treatment, you get dramatic results without the risks and complications of surgery or more invasive traditional CO2 laser resurfacing. The Fraxel Re:Pair™ system is the only fractional ablative resurfacing system that is FDA approved for cosmetic use. Fraxel Re:Pair™is approved for treatment of:
- Wrinkles
- Irregular texture
- Sun spots and age spots (pigmented lesions)
- Sun-induced redness (vascular dyschromia)
What should be expected during the treatment?
Fraxel Re:Pair™ is performed in our office with a topical anesthetic cream that is applied before the procedure begins and local anesthetic injections. Oral medications are occasionally given to help you relax during treatment and make the treatment easier for you. There is mild pain associated with the procedure - most patients say they feel heat similar to sunburn.
What should be expected after the treatment?
Immediately following treatment, you will have a moderate degree redness and swelling. Over the next 2-4 days there will be mild crusting, swelling and redness that will limit social and work activities. After about 3- 4 days, you will feel comfortable applying makeup to cover mild redness that gradually fades over about1 -2 weeks.
Soon after treatment, the surface of the skin will feel softer, look brighter and show a more even tone. Skin tightening and wrinkle improvement will be observed over the next 2-6 months.

Reliant Technologies Announces World Premiere of Fraxel re:pair(TM) Laser: A New Class of Treatment Therapy for CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - January 31, 2008 - Reliant Technologies, Inc., the pioneer of fractional resurfacing and market leader of aesthetic laser skin treatments, today announced the launch of its Fraxel re:pair laser system to the dermatology community. This world premiere will take place at the AAD's 66th Annual Meeting, Feb. 1 – 5, 2008, at the San Antonio Convention Center.
The Fraxel re:pair laser system, the result of two years of clinical research, represents a new category in skin rejuvenation: Ablative Fractional Resurfacing (AFRTM) treatment. It is the only device on the market that has received FDA clearance specifically for skin resurfacing with a fractional mode of delivery.
"Ablative fractional skin resurfacing with the Fraxel re:pair laser is the biggest breakthrough for wrinkle removal in the last 10 years," said Christopher Zachary, FRCP, chair of the Department of Dermatology, University of California at Irvine. "Results approach those we can achieve with a facelift, with very few complications and limited downtime. The Fraxel re:pair system produces significant tissue tightening, wrinkle reduction and textural improvement, both on and off the face."
The Fraxel re:pair laser is the industry's only minimally invasive, ablative fractional laser system that delivers a full spectrum of aesthetic treatment from Fractional MicroDermAblation™(FMDA™)treatment to Fractional Deep Dermal Ablation™ (FDDA™) treatment. It is the only ablative resurfacing device capable of being operated by a single clinician, because of its built-in smoke evacuation system, and capable of treating at depths from 300 micrometers (µm) to 1.6 mm into the dermis, all in a single hand piece.
"What is so exciting is that the Fraxel re:pair laser system addresses all three elements of photodamage that my patients want to improve: pigmentation, fine lines and elasticity," said Gregory Nikolaidis, M.D., president, Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in Austin, Texas. "The Fraxel re:pair system is the only laser treatment available for patients who want dramatic results comparable to a mild facelift, but without the associated risks and recovery time."
Dedicated to providing clinicians with laser systems that meet the broad range of patients' needs, Reliant Technologies is currently studying the Fraxel re:pair laser as a treatment for acne scars* and atrophic scars.* Ongoing clinical trials include more than 500 treatments in total.
The Fraxel re:pair laser system was recently granted the industry's only FDA 510(K) clearance for a fractional ablative device for the treatment of wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia, joining the prior clearance for skin resurfacing.
"The Fraxel re:pair laser, the latest addition to the Fraxel family of laser systems, continues the Reliant tradition of offering consumers choices when considering an aesthetic procedure to safely and effectively eliminate skin damage caused by age or the environment," said Anja Krammer, vice president of marketing for Reliant Technologies. "Whatever a patient's skin concern, Reliant offers a treatment that fits their lifestyle without the common side effects associated with surgical procedures."

Reliant Technologies Receives Industry's Only FDA 510(K) Clearance for a Fractional Ablative Resurfacing Device
Mountain View, CA – December 4, 2007 – Reliant Technologies, Inc., the pioneer of fractional skin resurfacing and market leader in aesthetic medicine, today announced that its Fraxel re:pair laser system has received the industry's only FDA 510(K) clearance for a fractional ablative laser system for treatment of wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia. The Fraxel re:pair system, initially cleared for ablation, coagulation and skin resurfacing in May, 2007, becomes the only fractional ablative resurfacing system cleared by the FDA for specific indications of use.
"In my 20 years of using lasers, I have not seen an ablative technology safely capable of targeting all of the elements of severe photodamage on and off the face, including the delicate neck and chest regions. It is now possible with the Fraxel re:pair system," said A. Jay Burns, MD,assistant professor of plastic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and past president of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.
The Fraxel re:pair laser delivers FMDAtreatments for superficial photodamage, including pigmentation, fine lines, texture and vascular dyschromia. It also has the flexibility to deliver FDDA treatment for more severe rhytids and furrows by stimulating new collagen and elastin production deep into the dermis. Treatment is delivered with the safety and proven efficacy of a Fraxel brand treatment.
"The results we are achieving with the Fraxel re:pair system are remarkable by any standard. Results approach that of a facelift, with very few complications and limited downtime," said Christopher Zachary, FRCP, chair of the Department of Dermatology, University of California at Irvine. "The Fraxel re:pair system produces significant tissue tightening, wrinkle reduction and textural improvement, both on and off the face."
The Fraxel re:pair laser removes and eliminates aged and damaged skin without the prolonged downtime and adverse reactions associated with traditional bulk ablative resurfacing lasers (also known as bulk CO2 or bulk erbium YAG lasers). Its advanced optics can deliver thousands of microscopic treatment zones up to 2.5 times faster than any other ablative fractional device, generating greater revenue opportunities for practices. It is also the only system clinically demonstrated to create zones of treatment beyond 1.5 mm that are spaced evenly across the skin's surface. In one treatment session, the Fraxel re:pair treatment removes up to 6 grams of dermal tissue, resulting in thorough tissue tightening, a uniform appearance and effective resurfacing.
"The Fraxel re:pair laser system is the most technologically advanced tool available for a physician today. Reliant's rigorous scientific development of the Fraxel re:pair laser is backed by data from more than 400 treatments conducted at 10 top clinical centers nationwide," said Anja Krammer, vice president of marketing for Reliant Technologies. "Unlike other devices on the market, only the Fraxel re:pair system uses state-of-the-art technology that integrates the proprietary Fraxel Intelligent Optical Tracking® system with a CO2 laser source. With just one hand piece, physicians can now effectively treat a broad range of conditions."
